How does your brake system even work?
Your automobile’s brake system has one job–to stop your vehicle. But it takes numerous crucial mechanisms to deliver that result. To bring a vehicle to a standstill, three things are required: friction, leverage and hydraulic force. Leverage is supplied by the pressure applied by the driver’s leg and the brake pedal. The pedal is coupled by rods and levers to the back of the power booster. The power booster then moves on to increase and handover the power of that leverage to the master cylinder. The master cylinder sits at the very core of your vehicle’s brake hydraulic structure. It uses applied leverage to force a tank full of brake fluid through spigots, as well as a bunch of other necessary components, into the hydraulic calipers. That hydraulic pressure is at that time used to help generate friction.
For example, disc brakes use a hydraulic caliper to snugly fit in with brake pads to grab a spinning rotor. This enterprise involves decidedly concocted parts and exact movement. This means that the more force you end up applying to the brake pedal, the greater the stopping power you end up with.
Additionally, to this principal braking system, most of today’s automobiles operate an electronic Anti-lock Brake System, or ABS for short. Using microelectronic instruments and high-pressure pumps, in certain environments, your ABS structure can automatically quantity vehicle speed, excessive steering wheel slip, as well as the applied brake force. At that moment, it pushes the brakes for you, forcing an emergency stop.
This is exactly why it’s indispensable to be proactive about regularly assessing the overall brake apparatuses: to ensure that you’re operating your vehicle in a safe and responsible manner. And to distinguish whether a brake module needs merely to be tuned or for it to be totally swapped.
